DISCOVER SIAL

SIAL, a responsible exhibition

Sustainable development, now a reference standard in business, is naturally positioned at the heart of SIAL. What is more, the food industry is directly concerned by the various environmental, economic and social components of sustainability.

More than 400 suppliers of organic products at SIAL

The Organic Products sector is situated in Hall 8, where the building itself is eco-friendly. This fast growing sector will present a wide variety of organically farmed produce.

In Hall 8, organic products from suppliers in other halls are displayed in special showcases, providing an essential overall view of the market.

A theme trail is dedicated to organic products, enabling visitors to locate the suppliers at the exhibition.

Spot the committed exhibitors

SIAL highlights the exhibitors who have made the commitment to undertake sustainable initiatives by developing a specific theme trail: “Fair trade, responsible and sustainable products and initiatives”, as shown in the leaflets distributed at the exhibition entrances. This theme trail includes a list of exhibitors who have developed initiatives or products that respond to sustainability criteria.

Sustainable food industries

For the very first time, SIAL is conducting an exclusive survey of sustainable initiatives undertaken by food industries worldwide. The results will be presented during a SIAL 2010 conference in the “SUSTAINABILITY IN FOOD BUSINESS” area in Hall 1, where a summary of the main topics will be presented throughout the exhibition.

A brand new “SUSTAINABILITY IN FOOD BUSINESS” area to discover

This area dedicated to sustainable development, located at the entrance to Hall 1, provides an overview of food industry commitments and areas for development; environmental impact disclosure, biodiversity, carbon report, eco design and packaging.
A vast conference programme with facilitators specialising in the field, a learning area and the theme trail entitled “Fair trade, responsible and sustainable products and initiatives” will illustrate the food industries’ commitments.

Sustainability focus points in a comprehensive conference programme

In the Nutrition & Health Village, learn about the sustainable food system with conferences on:
  • Between nutrition and the environment: future consumer choices?
  • What kind of sustainable farming can provide sustainable health?
  • Since fish consumption is rising, how can a sustainable, good quality offer be maintained?
  • How can unequal access to food be readjusted? Entre nutrition et écologie, quels seront les futurs choix des consommateurs ?

The Trends & Innovations conferences highlight sustainable food trends via themes such as:
  • Focus on organic, local, basic and seasonal foods
  • The locavore trend or how to eat foods produced within a 160km radius of our forks.

In La Cuisine du SIAL, certain chefs highlight sustainability with demonstrations including:
  • Focus on organic products and sustainable development
  • Food doctor: nutrition and health

Responsible initiatives by wine brands

Leading brands at SIAL will present their responsible initiatives in the Wine Innovation Forum, the meeting place for the wine profession.
These responsible brands have committed to respect a code of sustainable conduct, to share equitably the value generated throughout the channel (upstream production, employees and retail) and to develop a reputation and influence in society at large (education on responsible drinking and taste, brand social and cultural involvement, and strong regional roots and presence).

SIAL, a food bank partner

Some 200 food bank volunteers collect more than 50 tons of food products at SIAL.
Every day, edible leftovers are donated by exhibitors and transported, in compliance with health and safety regulations, to the Red Cross centres in La Seine-Saint-Denis, where they are immediately redistributed to the disadvantaged.
This event not only enables waste to be avoided but fosters contacts between exhibitor companies and charities in view of longstanding partnerships.

An exhibition concentrating all contacts in one place

A visitor coming just once to SIAL makes 26 contacts on average, namely 26 business meetings in one place. So 26 journeys all over the world are condensed into 1 trip to Paris!

Offset your CO2 emissions during SIAL!

Calculate your carbon output while travelling to and from SIAL on http://www.actioncarbone.org. Then offset these emissions by financing Action Carbone* projects.

*Action Carbone is a non-profit programme, based on concepts of responsibility and solidarity, enabling individuals, public bodies and companies to fight against climate change together. The aim is to reduce and offset their greenhouse gas emissions by financing energy efficiency and renewable energy projects developed by NGOs in the southern countries.

Car sharing to and from SIAL

For the very first time, SIAL encourages exhibitors and visitors alike to make use of its car-pooling service, which can be booked on the SIAL website www.sial.fr via the homepage. Car share points will be provided at the exhibition entrances so that participants can view the proposals online, and organise their rides.

Service available soon!

Taxis will also be encouraged to take several passengers at a time when leaving the Parc.

Take advantage of the free SIAL shuttle service

To bolster public transport, SIAL will provide free shuttle buses to and from Porte Maillot and Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport, with more frequent departures in peak hours.

New in 2010: a shuttle service from Montparnasse station.
